The Knapsack Institute: Transforming the Curriculum supports faculty across the nation as they create or revise courses to integrate race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class and other forms of social inequality. The Knapsack Institute is a program of The Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion, the home of the White Privilege Conference.

July 8, 9 and 10, 2008 Teaching for a Multicultural World: Bringing Diverse Lives, Stories and Histories into the Curriculum will be offered at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Bill Bigelow, veteran teacher and editor of Rethinking Schools and Beverly Braxton elementary teacher in the Warwick NY school district will facilitate the Institute. Geared for upper elementary teachers and secondary language arts and social studies teachers, participants will explore a wide range of multicultural teaching strategies and apply these approaches to their own curriculum.
