35 Years of Teaching for Change

Young people need the tools to change the world.
That’s what schools can and should provide.

Educators can give the next generation what they need to be civically engaged and solve some of the biggest challenges we face as a society. However, many teachers don’t get support to do this. In many places, policymakers are restricting, censoring, and even criminalizing teaching about basic parts of our history and culture.

Teaching for Change provides educators across the country with professional development, learning communities, lessons, and more.

Our programs and resources encourage students to ask questions and develop the skills to build an equitable and just society.

2024 is Teaching for Change’s 35th anniversary. Over the last 35 years, we’ve reached teachers and students in tens of thousands of classrooms. Over the last 10 years alone, more than 24,000 teachers have participated in our programs and learned ways to teach for change.

In the next five years, we aim to reach teachers at
10,000 schools in the United States.
We want your help to do it.

Teachers report that our curriculum fairs, teach-ins, workshops, study groups, fellowships, publications, resources, and community spaces transform the way they approach their work. In the next five years, Teaching for Change wants to bring these resources to teachers at 10,000 schools — that’s close to 10% of all schools in the country.

Here’s how you can be part of it.
