Why We Can Be Hopeful

Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) veteran and chairperson of the SNCC Legacy Project Courtland Cox shared with Teaching for Change why we can be hopeful in these political times.

Cox said, “A divided America is a good thing.” Listen to this seven minute video clip to hear why.

Filmmaker and Howard University senior Brandy Bruce filmed and edited the remarks.

Here are more quotes by Cox from the video:

Being in the streets is not enough.

You should be fearful, but you shouldn’t be paralyzed.

People had come together out of their singular issues…as a group, to challenge what they saw the old establishment trying to reimpose on them. [Referring to the women’s march on January 21, 2017.]

We aren’t going to go back to our existence of being threatened. We are going to fight you tooth and nail because we know… we’ve seen the movie already. We know what it means when “Father Knows Best.”
