Create a Fundraiser for Teaching for Change

You can help raise funds to bring anti-racist, social justice resources to classrooms across the U.S. by creating a peer-to-peer fundraiser for Teaching for Change using an online platform such as Facebook or Give Lively. For example, board member Lauren Khouri raised $1,317 on her birthday with a Facebook fundraiser – exceeding her goal of $1,000.

Below, we outline the steps to create a peer-to-peer fundraiser. Feel free to use the sample language and images below to use on the platform of your choice, be it email, Facebook, Twitter, or a peer-to-peer fundraising platform like Give Lively, Mightycause, Network for Good, etc.

Getting Started

Go to the Teaching for Change Facebook or Give Lively page.

Tell Your Story

Choose a title and tell your friends why you’re raising money for Teaching for Change. Is there a specific project (SocialJusticeBooks.org, Teaching Central America, DC Area Educators for Social Justice, Civil Rights Teaching, etc.) that you are raising money for? Is it your birthday? #GivingTuesday? A special anniversary?

Here is sample language for your fundraiser:

Jane’s #GivingTuesday Fundraiser for Teaching for Change

For #GivingTuesday this year, please join me in my support for Teaching for Change. I believe the best way to build a better future is to help young people learn about the powerful ways those before us made long lasting social change. We need to teach young people to think critically about the world around them and to see themselves as agents of change. From free downloadable lessons and recommended booklists to professional development workshops and trainings, Teaching for Change provides teachers with the tools to help students understand our world and envision the better future they deserve.

I have set a goal to raise $500. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every bit helps. Thank you so much for considering it.

TIP: Highlight programs or opportunities that are tied to our Giving Tuesday page, such as a $500 donation to support a master class with a go-go musician or scholar or $250 to support a classroom set of anti-bias, anti-racist children’s books. You can also customize your own ask.
