Native Truths: Telling More Complete Narratives in Your Classrooms
March 18 at the Field Museum | 9:00 am CDT – 3:00 pm CDT
The Field Museum and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) are hosting a full-day workshop on the theme of Removal and the exhibition Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories.
Teachers will receive context and a tour of the exhibition Native Truths, related curriculum from the NMAI’s Native Knowledge 360° online education portal, and strategies for teaching about Indigenous peoples’ histories and experiences. Guest speakers Diane Hunter (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma) and Josephine Lee (Ho-Chunk Nation) will provide insight and inspiration.
Light refreshments, lunch, and a book for your classroom will be provided for all attendees.
This workshop is recommended for teachers of grades 4th-12th, and space is limited. Register today. Educators will receive 6 CPDU hours for participating.
The Elizabeth Morse Genius Charitable Trust provided funding to support this education project in the Chicago region.

The National Museum of the American Indian seeks feedback from Chicago area teachers about your awareness or use of NK 360° and how you currently teach about Indigenous history or culture in your classroom.
In appreciation for completing the brief survey, you will receive a copy of the young readers’ edition of An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz; adapted by Debbie Reese and Jean Mendoza. (The book will be shipped to you by Teaching for Change via Beacon Press.)
